Job Description
For the Linked Parishes of St. Madeleine Sophie and St. Gabriel the Archangel
The Director of Religious Education (DRE) has full administrative responsibilities for the total faith formation program to meet the needs of the parishioners of St. Madeleine Sophie and St. Gabriel the Archangel parishes. The DRE must be capable of supervising other faith formation personnel, managing a faith formation office, recruiting, training, facilitating certification and supervising volunteers to assist with the program. The DRE will also be responsible for evaluating program resources, scheduling programs, developing curricula, evaluating program resources, scheduling classes and programs, functioning as a catechetical resource person and evaluating the effectiveness of the total program. The DRE must work in conjunction with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM) and Assistant Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation at St. Madeleine Sophie parish and the Assistant Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation at St. Gabriel the Archangel parish. This is a full time position averaging 35 hours per week and involves flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings. The employee is expected to submit a Time and Attendance Record form.
Competencies and Scope of Responsibilities
- Working with and communicating with the pastoral staffs and Pastoral/Parish Councils on a regular basis to develop and direct the faith formation program
- Developing and directing the sacramental programs
- Recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating catechists and other volunteers to assist in programs
- Insuring that all volunteers are working toward and/or maintaining a suitable level of certification
- Maintaining certification records for all volunteers
- Planning the faith formation calendar; preparing schedules for catechetical classes in conjunction with the calendars of both parishes (clearing needs for facilities and services with the Parishes Offices before any scheduling takes place)
- Managing a faith formation office
- Maintaining required records, including permanent records of programs and participants
- Preparing an annual faith formation budget for approval and monitoring expenditures
- Adult Education ( at both parishes):
- ACE
- RCIA
- Pre-Baptism, Baptism and Post-Baptism
- Eucharist
- Reconciliation
- Confirmation
- At St. Madeleine Sophie
A: work with the principal and school faculty in the following areas:
- Liturgies
- Reconciliation and prayer services
- Preparation for sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist
- Books and resource materials for Faith Formation
- Vacation Bible School
B: Assist with planning and coordinating of Childrens Liturgy of the Word
Qualifications for the Position
The DRE is or will need to be certified according to the Diocesan
requirements for certification. ( A copy of the requirements is available from the
Parish Office. )

Assistant Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation
Job Description
The Assistant Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation will report directly to the Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation also known as the Director of Faith Formation (DRE). The Assistant has administrative responsibilities for the total faith formation program at St. Madeleine Sophie parish grades 1-11. The Assistant must be capable of assisting the DRE in managing a faith formation office, which will include administrative duties involving the coordination of programs, documents, catechists, volunteers and maintenance of records. The Assistant must be comfortable assuming responsibility for all facets of the duties and the position of the DRE as needed. This is a TEN month position averaging 35 hours per week and involves flexible hours, including weekends and some evenings. Employee is expected to submit a Time & Attendance Record Form. Planned absences must have prior approval of the immediate supervisors and all such absences must be recorded on time and attendance record forms.

2. Supporting the DRE by:
- Assisting with the coordinating/administrating of the Faith Formation programs for grades 1 11, including the direct supervision of the functioning program when necessary.
- Assisting with the coordination/administration of sacramental programs, presently involving First Reconciliation/ Eucharist and Confirmation
- Assisting with the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of catechists and other volunteers as deemed necessary by the DRE.
- Assisting with the management of the Faith Formation office, which will include but not limited to:
- Development and distribution of documents to participants, catechists, parents and parishioners, including the development and distribution of the Faith Formation Calendar and Brochure
- Maintaining required records, including permanent records of programs and participants
- Maintaining applications, background records and certification records for all volunteers
- Data entry
- Developing and providing required documents to the diocese
- Meeting with appropriate individuals and groups on a regular basis for planning and communication purposes as agreed upon and deemed necessary by the DRE or in place of the DRE as needed.
- Participation in parish, deanery and diocesan meetings as well as faith formation events as agreed upon and deemed necessary by the DRE or in place of the DRE as needed.
